Come to the Monkey House Games' Villains & Vigilantes Gathering, online in the free web-based Roll20 virtual tabletop, Sunday April 26 2020.
Meet V&V creators Jack Herman and Jeff Dee! We'll chat about everything from V&V game mechanics to the Mighty Protectors Multiverse setting, the status of upcoming releases, and the history and future of the game. We'll be there from 4 to 6 pm CDT, stop by and say hello!
Thanks for putting this together.
These events are going to help people stay sane in lockdown times!
Steve Jackson put together, on fairly short notice, a virtual FnordCon to replace the in-person Austin event that had to be cancelled. They used Discord for the "panels;" the voice element worked well. They worked up a question-queuing bot to handle Q&A sessions. Might not be necessary in smaller gatherings.
I totally forgot about this event! Sorry I missed it.
oh no ... I missed it, too and will now enable notifications for all of the forum ...
Would be glad if you did something like that again and if you recorded it or could make a summary like 101Abnram said, it would be wonderful.
I logged in after it had already begun and could hear some (most? all?) other participants, but couldn't hear audio from MHG. I read the written text comments, but logged off before it ended - a little disappointed that I couldn't participate more fully.
Might anyone who fully participated be able to add to (or correct) any of the following, which I picked up from my pseudo/limited/partial participation. I ask because I felt like I missed all the interesting details.
1. Status of Upcoming Publications. "War Heroes," the WWII sourcebook, is still being worked on. The "Situation Room" adventure needs to be re-written because its original plot was made un-usuable by 'recent events.' "Abomination Realm" - writing can't really begin in earnest until "Situation Room" is complete. Stefan J has found "Beyond This World," the space sourcebook, to be a much bigger endeavor than he originally expected and is still writing. The explanation for why these various books were still in process was generally, 'unforeseen life circumstances' along with, 'this project ended up being bigger than expected.'
2. New V&V Comic Book. I was surprised that someone asked about whether a new V&V comic book was a possibility, and even more surprised to hear that MHG had apparently considered this. But I didn't pick up any more details other than 'we couldn't begin to work this until the Kickstarter projects are all complete.'
3. Online Tools. I picked up that there was some discussion about using MP/V&V on various online platforms (was one Fantasy Battlegrounds, or something like that) and of potential automated character creation tool.
4. Other Topics? Were any other 'big' topics discussed? (My reading of the text comments was that most were people introducing themselves and confirming that they didn't have any specific questions themselves, and, as time went on, explanations for why people had to drop off - like feeding cats and doing podcasts.)
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Following on my message directly above, the two questions I had planned to ask yesterday, if no one else had done so, were…
1. In light of extended time between publication of these big Kickstarter sourcebooks/adventures for MP, might MHG consider putting the MP character sheets for the Mighty Protectors themselves on DriveThruRPG (just the character sheets - which presumably already exist - without any further written descriptions or layout or anything else), which could be bought as a group for, say, $2.99?
2. Has Jeff watched Bill Willingham's recent You Tube video about the creation of the TSR comic book ads, in which Jeff is referenced a few different times? If so, what did he think?
Like Dan, I got on and could hear some of it, and that only after logging in with a third device that finally produced some sound (so I missed the first hour, other than text).
Dan did a really good job of recapping most of the major blurbs, from what I could tell.
It would be fun to do another one, perhaps with a different audio (like Discord).
V&V GM and player since 1982, my current campaign is 29 years old
Catching up on some questions:
Next event? Yes, we plan on doing another one. It probably won't be on Roll20. We'll make an announcement when we have a definite plan. Keep watching here and/or our Facebook groups for updates.
Comic book? This is something jack and I have wanted to do for ages. We've even reserved a 'Monkey House Comics' page on Facebook, and Jack has written a 'Mighty Protectors graphic novel' script. But the stars are not yet aligned; we can't move forward until we've delivered all of the Kickstarter stuff.
Character sheets for the Mighty Protectors themselves? Those are slated to be included in Jack's 'Situation Room' adventure.
Bill Willingham's You Tube videos? Yes, I'm watching them (and have even posted comments on a few). Good stuff!

Thank you, Jeff, for taking time to answer my random questions!
