To make attack and defense powers a little more understandable, I suggest a specific notation for damage type.

Type -> Subtype -> Specific.

So, for example, a Flame Ability would be Energy -> Heat -> Fire. This also means that it would be stopped by defenses that are Energy, Energy -> Heat, and Energy -> Heat -> Fire.

You know, after typing this up, I wonder if three steps are really necessary. Two (type -> subtype) would be lots. Specific could, for defenses, be treated as a weakness or negative modifier. Three steps cause some problems, for example, is Paralysis Ray a subtype of Entropy or a specific type of Entropy?

I think some hard coded subtypes would be the way to go. To use Kinetic as an example, you could have Blunt, Sharp, Vibration, Sonic, and Magnitisum as the five subtypes. Even there, vibration and sonic could be rolled into one. Even further, magnetism could be rolled into blunt and/or sharp.

Likely a little late in the game for this, but what do you think?
