So, short of technology and spells, is there anything you can fake up temporarily with Inventing Points? I get the idea in a couple places that it might also be intended for temporary power usage techniques, but it doesn't seem to be spelled out. On the other hand, if its just tech and spells, a lot of people are never going to use them. I guess once in a while you could use them for off-the-shelf tech.

3.1.3 Inventing Tasks
The character may attempt to invent anything they could acquire by spending experience points (see 8.4).

There's a line about appropriate rolls; what's an appropriate roll to invent a temporary technique?

It's the GM's job to rule on the question of task check modifiers, guided by the material in the section on the task system.

What I meant was, what kind of Background or Profession would be relevant to power stunting, if any? I suppose you can always use a naked Endurance roll or some such.

All Inventing checks are based on Intelligence (see 3.1.3, paragraph 4).
