I've been prepping to run Ancient Evil, and it now looks like it's going to happen in two days (Friday evening). I'll post pictures for you all to enjoy. If you haven't checked this one out, I highly recommend it, as it's one of the cooler (and nasty) adventures ever made for the game.

First off, a week and a half ago (at our last session), I showed the following information to players that indicated that they regulary read the newspaper (only one of these three came from the adventure itself):

NASA HEADED TO THE RED PLANET
After an 8-1/2 month voyage through space, NASA’s souped-up Mars spacecraft zoomed toward the red planet using a new routine, for what the agency hopes will be an epic touchdown. The fiery punch through the tenuous Martian atmosphere at 13,000 mph Sunday night marks the beginning of “seven minutes of terror” as the Curiosity rover aims for a bull’s-eye landing inside a massive crater near the equator.

MURDER WITNESS MISSING
The only known witness to the murder of feminist writer Dr. Teri Lieber has disappeared. Dr. Lieber was killed by a sonic scream after weeks of receiving death threats from someone calling himself 'Cannonmouth'. The witness, Sigourney Heard, was released from protective police custody yesterday morning and escorted home. She has not been seen since.

INVESTIGATIONS INTO DOPING AT THE OLYMPICS
The IOC is apparently investigating whether or not any of the new street drug “body” has been used by any participants of the 2012 Games. Rumors continue to abound as numerous athletes, including Moroccan runner Amine Laalou, Belarus hammer thrower Ivan Tsikhan, and Russian cyclist Victoria Baranova, among others, have all been banned or barred from entering Britain after failing doping tests for banned substances. The Olympics anti-doping operation is carrying out a record number of tests this year, with over 150 scientists analyzing 6,250 samples. Specially trained couriers, who are escorted by the English superhero Ivanhoe, carry the samples to Essex laboratory.

In the adventure (SPOILER ALERT), the PCs need to get isolated in the town of Kingstown. To get them there, I came up with the following, which I sent to them by email a few minutes ago:

The Guardians receive the following email from G.I.A.N.T. (Government Investigation into the Application of New Technology). As an FYI, this was encouraged by Quiasar as a great team-building exercise, and also serves to cover much of the government mandated annual requirements to hold a superhero license (David, please let me know right away if Warp does not have a license and thus wouldn't attend such an event).

Attention Guardians of Earth,

The following members of your team have been scheduled to attend the conference on “Less Lethal Alternatives for Law Enforcement” that is begin held at the conference center (300 Carlin St.) in Kingstown, Maryland on Saturday, August 18th.

Rune

As you know, the conference will be from approximately 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. While your members are encouraged to wear their usual costumes, we have not informed the media of this event to allow for a modicum of privacy while they attend.

Individual suites have been reserved at the adjacent Comfort Inn for each member. Please advise ASAP if anyone is unable to attend, as otherwise a non-refundable charge of $500.00 per room will be assessed to your credit card on file. The rooms are yours from Friday afternoon/evening until 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 19th.

We played the first part last night.

Warning: don't view further if you plan to be a player in this adventure in the near future, as the following pictures will certainly spoil some of the fun for you!

For hours we played with lots of good role-playing, and the players tried (unsuccessfully) to get Roy Ronson to temporarily give up the Spear of Daedalus.

As things got more and more ominous over the next day, they spread out, setting up all over town to be ready when anything happened.

Late at night an alarm sounded at the Ronson home, and the team rushed there, only to find young Seraide at gunpoint, being challenged by Roy Ronson and his dog, Bazooka.

Finally they convinced Roy to allow them to take the Spear (Summoner had even spent the day fashioning a shaft for it).

As they began to divide and fly back to their points all over town, a number of the heroes spotted a dastardly group of villains marching towards the Ronson house.

This was the six minions shown on the cover: Psyclone, Necroscope, Mnipre, Animus, Cannonmouth, Gutter, and the latter's many rats!

Most of the group was close enough when the fighting started. Warp chose to stay back at first, and Rune (in bear form) rushed towards it as combat began. In the upper left, Angelus ferried Seraide, while next to them Goliath carried new ally Sigurd. Enigma and Summoner (carrying the Spear of Daedalus) are on the bottom of the picture.

Mnipre attacked first, flying up into the air. When it became time for Gutter to order his rats to attack, there were really only two targets on the ground.

Goliath pulled off a power stunt and did a radius sonic scream. It resulted in multiple villains going down, including every single rat! Cannonmouth responded with an Emotion Control (hatred) radius assault that resulted in three of the vigilantes turning on their own. Warp teleported over and felled Cannonmouth. Angelus (feeling Cannonmouth's hatred) dropped Summoner from the telepathic link and flied around behind him (at around 500 m.p.h.), rolling a "6" and a "1" to successfully swipe the Spear from him!

Rune (also feeling hatred towards a teammate) switched back to human form and magically split so that he had numerous duplicate images.

The same shot from a different angle. Here you can see one of the spirit wolves (a psychic projection from Sigurd/Tarnhelm) attacking Seraide, while Animus remains a threat from behind.
