The Guardians 2010
Image

"The core of this team was created way, way back in the dim dark days of the 20th century. Two guys, hoping to work in comics one day, creating superhero alter-egos for themselves.

We even published a chapter of a story with them, years later in a B&W mag called Stages. The team had different names, over the years, but the Guardians is the one that stuck.

Up front we have the team leader, Paul Chandler, known as Mega. Next to him, his wife Cassandra. Both of them are refugees from an alternate Earth that was destroyed in the 1980s. In the armor, is Centurion. Osprey is the girl with the wings and next to her is Tesla. In the center is Amp, the main character in HeroBlog, who will soon be joining the Guardians. At the back is Victoria Montgomery known as Virago, she and Tesla are refugees from a completely different Earth that was destroyed in the same catastrophe that took out Earth on a number of time-lines. And lastly, there's Boyd Chandler, known as Wildstar.

Mega, Wildstar and Centurion are among the oldest characters in my portfolio. At this point in his career, Mega has given up on costumes, hence the jeans and t-shirt."

Hey Dom. Is it too late to give Rampart a power blast? (jk)

Joe that picture rocks like Gibralter buddy.

Thanks!
I finally got time to log in here.
Thanks for all the kind words and stuff. Really having fun doing these characters.
For years I wished I could track down some gamers who needed visuals for their characters. It gives me a chance to play with other people's ideas and it's more personal, because they're original characters.

Another mock cover for the guardians.

Image

So, yeah, another mock cover for a story that may never be told.

Corona is the brother of the Guardians' version of Galaxia, both are members of one of the Lost Races that left Earth millennia ago when a plague from space struck the Earth and all but wiped out the then existing races of humans. Their race was known as the Elenoi, they were noted for their power to manipulate various forms of energy. The Hurran are another of the Lost Races, noted for gigantism (they averaged well over 9 feet tall). The Lost Races fled to the stars where they established themselves in different star systems, to limit contact between them and thus prevent an outbreak among one race from wiping out all.

By the 20th century, the Hurran Empire is spreading across the galaxy, and threatens the Elenoi Alliance. It was to secure allies against the Hurran threat that the first ambassador was sent to Earth in the late 1800s. His ship was shot down by a Hurran observer ship and crashed in Aurora, Texas.

Much later, another ambassadorial mission was sent to Earth, which was damaged as it entered the atmosphere. Galaxia and Corona were they only survivors and, lacking the means to contact their homeworld, joined the Guardians in hopes of eventually returning home to fight the Hurran invaders.

In the Hurranian Directive, the Hurrans have sent a task force to the Sol system to neutralize any threat from Earth.

Esprit of Omega Unit

Esprit at 21

Evelyn Louise Strasson-Omega was born January 2, 1991. She'll be turning 21, soon and she's about to begin something of a solo adventure as she searches for a missing friend. She is still the youngest member of Omega Unit.

She is able to rotate the molecules of her body along various dimensional axes, allowing her to cease interaction with photons, though remaining physically solid. She has a wider range of sensory percention than normal, allowing her to "see" by means other than electromagnetic radiation. Later, she learned to rotate her molecules along a different dimensional axis, allowing her to remain totally visible, but rendering her immaterial in the three dimensional universe that is perceptible to humans. She can then propel herself to pass thru solid matter, energy fields, anything that does not extend into the dimensional range into which she has receded.

One of Joe's original characters, Goshawk, a member of the Valiants superteam.

Image

Goshawk is one of the Valiants.

His flying harness is an adaptation of Stiller Industries' paragravity technology. Paragrav impellers provide lift and thrust and the wings hep with maneuvering. Top speed about 80 mph.

No talking to birds or anything.

Originally, I was going to give him big bird wings, but I thought these worked better, when I started drawing him tonight.

Start to finish, a little over an hour.

Factor Five - A villain group in Joe's Hero Blog universe. Starting at the bottom left and working clockwise are Chrysalis; the deformed Yugoslavian dwarf Dr. Gorgon, the demi-human Minotaur, who's related to Chrysalis; Psiren who's got a wide range of mental/psi powers; and at the bottom right is Dark Light, with his anti-light powers.
